The Pintabian is a new
breed of horse developed almost entirely from the Arabian with exception of an
outcross introduced many generations back. They are a breed with not only
Tobiano markings, but also must be over 99% Arabian blood. A TRULY RARE FIND
INDEED! Pintabians have the basic characteristics of the Arabian,
type, substance and beauty. It is impossible for a Pintabian to be 100% Arabian.
To produce a Tobiano one parent must be a Tobiano. Therefore, the
Pintabian breed was developed by continually crossing tobianos back to purebred
Arabians. When two Pintabians are crossed with each other, the result in
foal still carries over 99% Arabian blood. Pintabian foals without the
desired markings are eligible for registration as " Breeding Stock" as
they still meet the requirement of being over 99% Arabian in blood. Purebred Arabians
may also be used as outcross horses to allow for additional
bloodlines. The PHA, was founded in Minnesota in 1992. It was
established for the purpose of providing permanent records and recognition of
the Pintabian Horse, as well as to recognize the efforts of the breeders and
owners of these horses. Three registration divisions of the Pintabian
Horse Registry include: Division A: Purebred Arabian -- Division B:
Breeding Stock: over 99% Arabian blood, but no Tobiano markings --
Division C-colored: possess the desired Tobiano markings of the Pintabian and
are over 99% Arabian in blood, at least one parent must be Tobiano. Pintabians
are ideal for pleasure, showing, competitive and endurance sports, racing,
driving, and they also make wonderful family horses. It is possible for the
Pintabians to be Triple Registered (Pintabian, Half-Arabian and Pinto).
